Address unconventional gas concerns now! (MSP)

A vast swathe of central Scotland has been earmarked for controversial gas exploration and development, including coalbed methane and shale gas. And at Westminster, Ministers have given the controversial fracking technique the green light.

Evidence from other counties where unconventional gas extraction is more advanced indicates that there are inherent risks to human health and the environment from these activities.

What’s more, going down the route of unconventional gas could see us locked into expensive infrastructure and divert investment away from badly needed green infrastructure to make the most of our abundant renewable resources. Industry, investors and communities are getting seriously mixed messages about Scotland's energy future.
